The poster shows the four pillars of this project: starting with active listening, recognising the emotional expression of each topic.
Six were chosen: 1. the lament theme, which expresses sadness; 2. the minuet theme, which expresses the joy and elegance of courtly dance; 3. the antico or scholarly style theme, which represents the seriousness of sacred music, spirituality; 4. the march theme, alluding to the solemn and triumphal character; 5. the tópico de marcha theme, alluding to the solemn and triumphal character; 6. the tempesta theme, which expresses the solemn and triumphal character. The tópico de marcha, alluding to the solemn and triumphal character; 5. The tópico de ombra, reflecting terror and gloom; and finally, the tópico de tempesta, expressing the solemn and triumphal character.
Through the analysis of the score, the musical features of each topic are defined.
Each musical example is linked, on the one hand, to images that explain the meaning that each theme has acquired in its context through the survival of the same themes in art, such as Velázquez’s Christ, Goya’s The Coven, Vernet’s Tempest, Tiepolo’s Death of Dido or Watteau’s Fête galante.
On the other hand, they are linked to images that show the functional use of each topic in its socio-historical context, such as images of dances at the court of Ferdinand VI, sacred celebrations, the singing of the castrato Farinelli at the Spanish court, theatrical music in Madrid, ceremonial marches for specific historical events or an example of the frequent battles in 18th century Europe.
